ASSOCIATE PASTOR

Desiring to go into law enforcement I was a candidate with the California Highway Patrol when the Lord made it clear that He wanted me enforcing another kind of Law! Discouraged by the slow pace of the hiring process, one night I was talking with my wife and I asked her “What do you see my passion being, what drives me?” She responded with two thoughts “You either come home from work with stories about the unbelievers you met today or we talk about events and plans for the church we attend.” She didn’t know at the time that those words crystallized in verbal form the desires that had been stirring in my heart since my salvation at age 18. After talking about ministry with the elders of my church, the chair of the elder board, Russ Kelly embraced me with both hands and exclaimed on behalf of the other elders the excitement they had for me. With his blue eyes staring into mine he said “But Scott, you don’t know a thing! Go back to school!” I did and after graduating from The Master’s Seminary with a Master’s of Divinity in 2007, I served on staff at Grace Community Churchbefore transitioning to a biblical counseling ministry in Paris, Tennessee. I gained valuable leadership and theological training at Grace Church but matured a pastor’s heart during my time as a counselor and teacher at Fairview Baptist Church.

I came to Kansas City because I believe in the Harvest model of ministry, I believe in the elder led vision of this church, I trust the Senior Pastor Jeff Terrell to accurately handle the word and I love the people God has gathered here. When I as was approached about a ministry opportunity in Kansas City I was struck with the incredible amount of overlap between what the church was looking for and what I love to do. My family and  I joined the church in May 2011 and have been amazed at the work God has started here.

I am the father of three boys, Jonah, Noah and Jacob. My wife Amy and I will be celebrating God’s faithfulness and blessing of marriage this August for the 10th year. Amy loves parenting, scrapbooking and card making. Her passion is for helping others develop tools and skills to study the bible on their own. She is ‘all in’ as we say when it comes to the ministry lifestyle. We met while students at the Master’s College and following graduation in May 2002 we were married in August 2002. Between the two of us we felt a strong ability to relate with nearly any kind of person from any walk of life. Between us we have worked at In-N-Out Burger, Hospitals, Cemeteries, Mortuaries, National Parks, Truck Driving, School teaching, Inner City School teaching, Wildland Firefighting, Colleges, Seminaries and Churches.
