This Weeks Worship…1.8.12
Hello Harvest Church Family. I expect everyone was blessed by having experienced Christmas…all its related traditions and activities, and especially what it represents in the lives of believers. The break from routine is always nice. However, I think it’s just as nice to dig back in when the new year rolls around. Well…it’s arrived, and it’s exciting to look at the plans of our church in the year ahead. Will you commit to praying for one another and for our impact on those in our community, as well as to serving the Lord in full obedience as He leads us step by step.
This week, we will evaluate scriptural perspectives on stewardship. 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 teaches that God, in His immeasurable grace, lavishes good things on those who have purposed in their hearts to, in turn, use those graces for the sake of blessing others. Often, it’s very natural to enjoy God’s blessings for ourselves, and God definitely wants us to experience joy in life. However, it is ultimately our Father’s purpose that, with thankful and humble hearts, we sacrificially share those joys, graces, and earthly blessings with others. It is when we empty ourselves that God replenishes the need.
Our songs for Sunday will focus on our God’s bountifully supplying our needs, and, in turn, our offering back to Him. In the song Enough, we express our recognition of the sufficiency of God’s gifts to His children. He provides our needs to live as well as the sacrifices we are to offer to Him and others. Unashamed, likewise, expresses that it is because of Christ that we are able to offer anything of value. We have nothing of ourselves, much less anything to offer with which God would be pleased. Yet because of the grace and mercy of Christ, that which God has given, yes, even that which by our sin became cursed, has been redeemed and is fit to be given in such a way that honors the Lord. It becomes clear that giving is among the highest of privileges when we recognize that Christ’s sacrifice was required that we could give as an act of worship.
